This event marks the launching of YCU’s fundraising efforts for the 2024 Plein Air Sac season. Both participating artists have generously agreed to donate half of all art sales to support the program. There will also be a variety of art books and art supplies available for purchase at the show.

About the Artists

Frank Zamora

Frank Zamora is a California artist who has exhibited his art throughout the United States spanning many decades. To many in the Sacramento region, Frank is known as one of the icons of the Art Department at Sacramento City College. As a point of fact, many of Sacramento’s artists have learned from their time in a class taught by Frank Zamora.

Many of his artworks explore the expressiveness of “mark making”, a term and style that has become synonymous with the artist. Frank has even published an educational book to inspire and guide aspiring artists titled, “Marking Your World: A Drawing Book for Beginning Art”.

Over his long career, Frank has taught many different subjects in art, ranging from drawing and painting to design and special studies in art. He has an astute awareness of the history of art and a passion for educating artists and non-artists alike as to the benefits of art education.

Jason Richardson

Jason is a native of southern California, who relocated to the Sacramento region as an infant. He comes from a large family, with several generations of successful artists. He has been a working artist both throughout California and internationally, for over 20 years.

Much of Jason’s work is reflective of his passion for exploring abstract compositions and pushing the limits of the medium he uses to make his work. Over his artistic career, Jason has explored many genres and techniques as he has delivered commission pieces for corporate clients and individual collectors.

After completing his MFA program, Jason searched for opportunities to incorporate art education into his art repertoire. After developing his own curriculum and teaching several private classes, Jason was offered a chance to bring his desire to be an advocate for arts education to a broader audience by taking over the helm of a local charity, Youth Connections Unlimited. Since taking over in 2021, Jason launched his first program, Plein Air Sac, and was a partner in a charity art auction benefiting homeless charities.
